Nav raat ni hati NAVRATRI....

Gujarat is a place where each and every , small and big festival is celebrated by the people. It is a Multi- Cultural state that brings everyone together on these occasions. Yesterday it was the end of one more craziest festival of Gujarat that was NAVRATRI...

What does Navratri mean???? Why is it Celebrated??? What is the true sense of it????? How do people celebrate??? How should it be celebrated???? etc etc are the questions that were wandering in my mind and i decided to finally to get into the depth of it.. I may not be completely right but this is what i understood from people and what i saw..

Navratri is a Sanskrit word that means nine nights. Navratri is also called Navaratri which means Durga Puja in Hinduism. It is it is celebrated for the divine feminine in the month of Ashvin as per Hindu Calendar and ends with Dusherra which is also called as VijayaDashmi on that day the people go and give away the Garbo (a plant like).

It is celebrated in different manner in different regions of India. Some people do a lot of puja and fasting and give up on eating non vegetarian food and some people perform GARBA, especially in Gujarat for 9 auspicious nights. This festival is dedicated for the strength of feminine. This is a festival of colours. people wear colourful dresses and play garba which in-turn becomes an exercise for the people as well because it is exhausting as people play GARBA for continuous 5-6 hours. Garba is played till midnight. Traditional wear for females for Navratri is flairy Chaniya choli and males is  kediyu or kurta..

On the last day of Navratri which is Dusherra people eat special food item that ishot and salty Fafda and yummy Jalebi...That's all for Navratri, will be back with more experiences and product blogs soon...
